ZetaMarker

Update your account for cloud sync

If you used ZetaMarker before our latest extension and dashboard release, complete a one-time account update on the web dashboard to restore cloud sync. Your local highlights stay in your browser.

Why am I seeing this?

ZetaMarker recently upgraded its accounts, extension, and subscription experience. If you already had a ZetaMarker account and installed the new extension or opened the new dashboard, you may need a one-time account update before cloud sync works again.

The extension shows a persistent message when you are signed in but the update is not finished. That is expected — it is not a problem with the page you are reading.

What changed?

Today, cloud features are tied to your account on our servers:

  • One account for the extension and web dashboard
  • Pro trial or subscription for cloud sync, the dashboard library, exports, and cloud PDF storage
  • The dashboard is where you finish the account update, start a trial, and manage billing

The extension checks your account status and pauses cloud sync until you complete the update (or choose local-only mode).

Will I lose my highlights?

No. Highlights on the page you are viewing — and on other pages — stay saved locally in your browser. Only cloud sync is paused until you finish the update on the dashboard.

You can keep highlighting locally while you complete the steps below.

How to restore cloud sync

  1. Click Open dashboard in the extension message (or go to app.zetamarker.com/migration).
  2. Follow the account update steps — this includes starting your 7-day Pro trial if you have not already (no credit card required for the trial).
  3. Return to your browser tab and click Refresh on the extension message.
  4. Cloud sync should resume without deleting local data.

If the message still appears, finish any remaining steps on the dashboard, then tap Refresh again.

Update the Chrome extension

Cloud sync also requires the latest ZetaMarker extension from the Chrome Web Store. Chrome checks for extension updates periodically and installs them automatically when possible, but updates are not instant — rollout can take a few hours or even a few days, and the extension usually needs to be idle before the update applies.

If you completed the account update on the dashboard but cloud sync has not resumed in the extension, check that you are on the latest extension version.

Update manually in Chrome

  1. Open the Chrome menu (three dots).
  2. Select Extensions → Manage extensions (or go to chrome://extensions).
  3. Turn on Developer mode (top-right toggle).
  4. Click Update to check for extension updates across installed extensions.
  5. After updating, return to your tabs: click Refresh on the extension's account message, or reload open pages (see Extension updated — refresh the page).

If you upgraded from extension v7.x, also read the post-update welcome guide.

After updating

  1. Finish the account update on the dashboard migration page if you have not already.
  2. In the extension, tap Refresh on the persistent message (or sign in again).
  3. Reload any tabs that were open before the update if highlighting does not work.

What is included during the trial?

The 7-day Pro trial includes the same cloud features as a paid Pro plan:

  • Cloud sync across devices
  • Web dashboard (pages, labels, search, trash)
  • PDF upload and annotation in the dashboard
  • Exports (PDF, Markdown, HTML, TXT)
  • 300 MB total cloud PDF storage (up to 50 MB per file)

See pricing for USD prices after the trial.

After the trial

When the 7 days end, you can subscribe (monthly or yearly, USD) to keep cloud features. The extension always keeps local highlighting on web and PDF without a subscription.

Manage billing from Settings → Subscription on the dashboard.

Continue without cloud sync

You can keep using the extension for local highlighting only. Continue without cloud sync signs you out of cloud features while keeping local highlights. You can sign in again later to finish the update or subscribe.

  • Subscription expired or payment failed — similar blocking message; use Open dashboard to go to Settings → Subscription, not the migration page.
  • Sync conflicts — different message about the same page changing elsewhere; refresh the tab instead.
  • Pages in Trash — page was deleted in the dashboard, not an account update issue.

Use Open dashboard in the extension to complete the update, or sign in to the dashboard directly.
